On Wednesday we went down to Laguna Beach and toured another art school. This time the friendly dean spent over an hour with us, gave Gina an extensive and very helpful portfolio critique and showed us all around the school and classes. The students were younger, the atmosphere was laid back and non-threatening.

The parrot man
|
We slowly made our way up the coast along Pacific Coast Highway, stopping at the Newport Pier to lay on the beach in the wind. We saw a man on a bicycle with six parrots! Gina decided she doesn’t want to go to school in LA which is all right with me!

Point Fermin

Moody San Pedro Arrived at the lovely Point Fermin Lighthouse in San Pedro, with a fabulous clear view of Santa Catalina Island in the distance. Pelicans and kites floated on the raging updraft, along with radio glider planes. We watched a lone surfer in the bay below, and the sun went down. Revisited the cliffs where I smoked my first and last cigarette at age 18. Luckily i just didn’t like them.

The Korean Friendship Bell
|
Stayed the next two nights at the Fort MacArthur youth hostel, an old army barracks, a bit clammy but picturesque, with a view of the Korean Friendship Bell Monument. San Pedro and Point Fermin are featured in the movies “China Town”and “City of Angels”.
