Guinness Storehouse

Wednesday - 1 Jan 2003
Dublin , St James Gate - Ireland

Barrel (created by coopers!), St James Gate.

Guinness Storehouse

In the afternoon, we went to the famed Guinness Storehouse. Big fans of the unique thick stout, Kenny had held off on visiting in the interest of allowing me to join him in paying homage to the brewery at St James Gate, Dublin.

Guinness Storehouse Tour

We embarked on the self-guided tour, which was well-deisnged but heavy on the Guinness advertising imagery. Oh well, what did we really expect? The smell of barley malt was sweet in the air. We learned about the brewing process, the history of Arthur Guinness, and the successful and endlessly creative advertising campaigns promoting Guinness Stout.

Gravity Bar

At the end of the tour, we were granted refreshment in the form of a perfect pint in the eighth-floor glass-enclosed Gravity Bar atop the Guinness Storehouse.

Me with a pint.

Gravity Bar

We enjoyed our opaque pints with the views of nighttime Dublin's skyline arrayed behind the 360 degree windows.
